The Public Finances’ Palace (no 1 polyclinic)

This time the architect Rimanoczy Kalman jr proposes an eclectic project. He completes the project in a record-braking time (February 1899 – April 1900). The ornamental register is incredibly rich in this case, the volumetric symmetry and the emphasis on the central axle of the composition is also a determining element in the monumental character of the building.

In contrary to the expectations, the monumental character of the edifice is quite reduced in the interior; the space assigned for the main staircase being actually small. Even though we encounter many decorative elements (mouldings, stained coloured glass-windows, hardware) the architect’s major idea was to give the interior of the building UTILITAS first, and only afterwards VENUSITAS.

Having the shape of a U, the 3 store building has the main façade dominated by the central jutty, incredibly monumental not only because of the discrete decorative elements but for its volumetric and allure.

The Big Railway Station

The building of The Big Railway Station, the way it looks today, dates from 1902, when the architect Rimanoczy Kalman and the engineer Rendes Vilmos designed and led the expansion works of the already existing building.

Although the volume shapes of the building remained the same through the years, however, a whole series of decorative elements were destroyed or lost as a consequence of repeated renovations.
