The “Saint Archangel Mihail and Gavril” Church in Boianu Mare
Image
A wooden church in Boianu Mare, it may be one of the most popular and beautiful constructions from the North – West of Romania. It was build according to a historical monograph of Bihor County, around the year 1710, the church stands out, in a particular way, through the interior painting in the nave (and not in the narthex, as usually), presents a part of the scene of the “Judgment Day”, a dragon’s head that may be distinguished on the Northern wall, under the “choir’s” ceiling, added to the nave at the end of the 19th century.
A series of icons on glass and on wood, together with home made canvas, increase the plastic effect of the church. A bell’s spindle, marked with Arab numbers, 1686, is also kept through the priceless objects.
The “Saint Archangel Mihail and Gavril” Church in Borsa, Sacadat Villag

It is common knowledge that around the year 1773, Borsa Village, as other villages from the Crisu Repede Valley, was aligned; some of the households have been moved to the today’s village’s hearth. The church was probably moved at the same time.
On this construction we can follow the archaic techniques, an example being the conclusion that the ends of the beans are cut with the axe or that the clasps from the coronet of beans from the walls were made without the help of a handsaw. It is important to notice that some of the beans from the walls have up to 70 cm in thickness.
The church was painted several times, a series of inscriptions prove it. As a result of a fire in 1913, started from a candle, there were replaced some of the boards from the nave’s arch as well as some of the boards of the Western wall of the same room.

The “Saint Archangel Mihail and Gavril” Church in Botean, Ineu Village
Image

In the middle of Botean village, on a hill, and surrounded by plums, the wooden church is found in a quite good preservation stat. The archive documents certify that on May 24th, 1720, the inhabitants of Botean Village are approved an amount of money (15 florins) for the building of the church, these things probably happening sometime between 1720 and 1724.

The project of the construction is common in the area: a rectangular nave, 9 meters long, and a polygonal, apse, separated with approximately 45 centimeters towards the interior, against the Northern and Southern walls of the nave. The porch on the West side was added later.

The interior fresco is well kept. It is very interesting the representation of personified “Death”, which in one hand holds the scythe and in the other the rake.
